One of the oldest European directives, it was originally published in 1973 and has only one modification, 93/68/EEC, published 22 July 1993. The Articles cover general items such as: definitions, basic safety requirements, quality practices, Market Obstruction, international notification procedures, Harmonized Standards, and National Standards.
Annex I establishes the principal safety elements and basic identification requirements that must be met by all Low Voltage Electronic Equipment. Safety elements include: protection against hazards arising from the electrical equipment and protection against hazards which may be caused by external influences on the electrical equipment.
Annex II lists devices and interference not covered by 73/23/EEC.
Annex III lays down the details of how the CE mark is to appear and be affixed and what the EC declaration of Conformity must contain.
